Your feeling are lying to you
TL;DR Often we see our strong feelings as what constitutes our true self. Our thoughts might be flighty but our feelings are true and clear. This is not true, though. When a strong feeling is there, with a message, it is not helpful to deny that the feeling is there, but its messages should be regarded skeptically. Your anger will tell you it is a good idea to yell, your despair will tell you there is no point in trying, and your over-cheer will tell you that now is the time to celebrate, so throw caution to the wind. Learning to see your feelings as other, and not trust their messages, is an important step in self-management.
